Jabal AlFil (Elephant Rock)

One of Alula's many geological marvels is the awe-inspiring 'Elephant Rock.' Also known as Jabal AlFil, this rock majestically climbs three stories into the Saudi Arabian sky. It has stood still since time immemorial in the golden desert.

The 'trunk' and 'body' of this monolithic red sandstone animal were formed by natural forces — wind and water erosion millions of years ago. As opposed to the elaborate, hand-carved facades of the neighboring Hegra's Nabataean tombs, this natural wonder remains untouched or unaffected by the sun's harshness. This unique rock formation has the appearance of an elephant with its trunk firmly rooted on the ground.

The landscape of golden beaches and rocky outcrops, many of which are equally astonishing in size and have intriguing shapes and figures. All this only adds to the historical beauty of the raw building.
