Mission complex, known as 'The Alamo,' is located in modern-day San Antonio. The Spanish constructed the Alamo in the eighteenth century to influence Christianity upon the indigenous people of North America. Afterward, it was fortified in preparation for the 1836 Texas Revolution.

As the location of the pivotal Battle of the Alamo, the Alamo has come to symbolize Texas and has become the most historically significant event. In 1836, Texans headed by General Antonio López de Santa Anna lost to Mexican soldiers at the Alamo. The Texan forces put up a valiant fight but were ultimately overrun and slaughtered. Nonetheless, this war signified Texas's will to be independent and influenced subsequent liberation wars.

Known all over the world, the Alamo has come to represent Texas as a whole and serves as a major tourist destination. The grounds also have a museum dedicated to the Alamo and the Texas Revolution, where the entire history of the battle and revolution has been exhibited.
